Abstract: D. E. Smith reproduces two problems from Brahmagupta's work Kutakhadyaka
(algebra) in his History of Mathematics, Volume 1. One of them involves
a broken tree and the other a mountain journey. Normally such objects are
represented by vertical line segments. However, it is every day experience
that such objects need not be vertical. In this paper, we generalize
these situations to include slanted positions and provide integer solutions
to these problems.
