Abstract: We introduce the method of punctured containers, which geometrically
relates volumes and centroids of complicated solids to those of simpler punctured
prismatic solids. This method goes to the heart of some of the basic properties
of the sphere, and extends them in natural and significant ways to solids
assembled from cylindrical wedges (Archimedean domes) and to more general
solids, especially those with nonuniform densities.
